What Are Causes Of High Blood Pressure

Hypertension or high blood pressure is one of the biggest health concerns for mankind on the twenty first century. The problem of high blood pressure has plagued all the civilizations for a long time, strange thing is that there is no particular reason for the acquiring of this disease. Almost ninety percent of the cases of hypertension reported all over the world have unknown causes. There are multiple factors that can contribute to the contraction of this condition, sometimes it becomes very hard to pin point a single reason as the cause for the contraction of this disease.

But before that let us see whether we have a clear conception regarding the disease of high blood pressure or not. Blood pressure is the force that the blood exerts on the walls of the arteries as it leaves the heart; there can be two kinds of blood pressure, systolic and diastolic. The pressure exerted by the blood when the heart is fully contracted is called systolic blood pressure, on the other hand when the heart is in a relaxed state it is known to exert diastolic pressure.

Blood is the carrier of nutrients and oxygen, the blood is pumped throughout the body by the heart via the arteries. Thereby the arteries are the pipe lines and the heart is the pumping station. Usually the walls of the arteries are very flexible, so that no matter how much pressure the blood exerts on the wall of the arteries the blood pressure on the arteries remains the same. But as a person grows old the walls of the arteries become rigid and can no longer stretch as usual, as a result of which the body loses its mechanism to modulate the blood pressure. Sometimes the already small blood vessels may become smaller, causing the blood pressure in these vessels to rise considerably.

There are certain factors in the lifestyle of a person that contributes to the rise in blood pressure of a normal person.

  • Smoking
  • Family history, heredity
  • Obesity
  • Binging on alcohol
  • Lack of exercise in the regimen
  • Lack of proper diet

Hypertension has been termed as a “silent killer”, it has been so named because of the fact that this disease cannot be easily diagnosed, and if left untreated this disease gives rise to certain associated conditions, which lead to the death of the patient.

Sadly enough there are no specific causes of this disease; there might be various factors that act in tandem to give rise to this disease. A normal and healthy lifestyle with proper nutrition and regular exercise is highly recommended for people who want to escape from the grasp of this disease.
