Pulmonary Hypertension Symptoms

There are various forms of conditions that can arise due to hyper tension, one such type of hypertension is pulmonary hypertension. Hypertension is said to occurt when the blood pressure in the arteries rises to huge extent causing the patient to suffer from various other conditions.
Pulmonary hypertension is a form of hypertension that only affects the arteries in the lungs of the patients; this is a progressive illness and silently paves the way towards the mortality of the sufferer. Hypertension is commonly attributed to the condition where blood travels through the arteries at a pressure that is higher than the normal value. In case of pulmonary hypertension the high blood pressure is specific to the blood vessels of the lungs.
Most of us who have heard of the common form of hypertension will know that high blood pressure affects the blood vessels on the left sides of our bodies (because the heart is situated on the left side as well). On the other hand the pulmonary hypertension affects the right side of the heart and the arteries of the lungs.
The lung is a highly vascularised organ that has a huge number of capillaries, which form a complex meshwork around the alveoli of the lungs. Problem arises when the blood vessels or the capillaries that supply blood to the lungs get constricted, damaged or altogether destroyed. As a result of the narrowing or the total annihilation of the capillaries, an increase in blood pressure in the lungs takes place. This is caused due to the fact that the blood flowing through the lungs now encounter a higher amount of resistance.
As the amount of pressure increases the heart muscles have to work harder to pump blood through the constricted passages of the lungs, as a result of which the work load on the heart muscles increases gradually weakening them. As the heart muscles become more and more weak, the efficiency of these muscles decreases considerably and one day they might stop working altogether. Basically the pulmonary hypertension affects the right ventricle of the heart, which is responsible for pumping deoxygenated blood into the lungs.
Breathing difficulty of any kind should be treated with the utmost care, this s considered to be a life threatening emergency, as it may indicate pneumonia, heart attack and pulmonary hypertension.
Pulmonary hypertension is not so easy to diagnose, it is very difficult even for the patients to guess that they are suffering from pulmonary hypertension. Most of the patients do not even realize that they have pulmonary hypertension until months or years until they have it. Shortness of breath, fatigue, dizziness or fainting spells, racing heart and palpitations are some of the common symptoms associated with this disease.
